About Applewood
An Enduring Legacy of Civic Participation
Recognizing the value of Charles Stewart Mott’s contributions to Flint and beyond, Ruth Mott ensured Applewood would be preserved and opened to the public in honor of her late husband’s remarkable legacy.
The exhibition greenhouse was designed to span the area between the residence and the garage and connect to both. Just steps from the kitchen, the greenhouse lengthened the growing season for cold-sensitive vegetables, and it was the perfect environment for citrus trees and C.S. Mott's favorite flower, the Bird of Paradise.
