Support to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint for the Neighborhood Small Grants Program, which supports established and emerging citizen-based organizations in and near the city of Flint to carry out projects that address pressing issues within their neighborhoods, build alliances with other community institutions, and develop community-based leadership.

Two years of support to the Flint Courier News to continue providing relevant news and information to north Flint residents and to improve its ability to serve as a resource and connector for neighborhood groups and organizations that serve north Flint.

Crime Stoppers educates, engages, and empowers Flint and Genesee County residents to share crime-related information with law enforcement anonymously through a secure tip line or secure web connection.

Support to El Ballet Folklórico Estudiantil to provide weekly Mexican folkloric music, dance, and cultural programming in English and Spanish youth enrolled at Richfield Public School Academy located in north Flint.

General operating support to Evergreen Community Development Initiative, the nonprofit that operates the Flint Development Center as a neighborhood hub in north Flint. The center hosts a variety of youth development, community health, and civic engagement programs.

Support for the 100K North Flint Programming Initiative, which provides supports for entrepreneurs in north Flint. 

Support to the First Presbyterian Church of Flint for the Families Forward Michigan ID Initiative, which supports Flint Community Schools students and families in obtaining State of Michigan identification, thereby eliminating barriers related to safety and workforce development and increasing opportunities for civic participation.

Support to the Flint Institute of Music for the Youth Usher Corps program. The Flint Institute of Music provides high-quality, age-appropriate out-of-school time music, theatre, and dance instruction for youth, as well as job training and employment opportunities for teens.

Support to the Flint Jackson Park Youth League’s 2024 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities afterschool and summer development program, which teaches youth baseball techniques, team building, and social skills.

Support to GearUp2Lead for The Engagement Center and the Flint & Genesee County Opportunity Youth Coalition. The Engagement Center is a one-stop supportive service hub providing opportunities for youth to finish school and/or gain meaningful employment through needs assessments and intensive individualized support services.

Support to the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission for the North Flint Public Safety Strategy. The Parks Commission engages residents as park adopters, supports the City of Flint in managing city parks, and provides resources for community groups through Keep Genesee County Beautiful to care for public spaces in their neighborhoods.

Support to the Genesee Chamber Foundation for Issue Media Group’s Flintside: On the Ground 2024 program. The On the Ground project will highlight the five north Flint neighborhoods previously featured: Sarvis Park, Eastside Franklin Park, Brownell Holmes, Civic Park, and Ballenger Highway. Utilizing trained journalists to work in partnership with residents to develop news coverage, Flintside will highlight events and the work of local individuals, businesses, and nonprofits. The program also provides training, equipment, and freelance opportunities for correspondents who previously participated in the program.

General operating support to MADE Institute to provide job training and life skills services to people returning from incarceration or who have a prior criminal conviction.

Support to Metro Community Development to provide loans and/or grants to small north Flint businesses and home owners to support business expansion, first-time home ownership, and home repairs.

This grant to the Michigan Civic Education Fund will support nonpartisan efforts to encourage and increase civic participation in the state and among north Flint residents.

Support to Motherly Intercession for the Reading and Counting to Success Plus program, which serves youth with a parent who is or was incarcerated. Motherly Intercession’s mission is to provide a comprehensive system of support designed to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.

Support for the Flint chapter of Nation Outside. Nation Outside is a statewide organization with a mission to drive policy and practice reforms that build transformative systems of support for justice-impacted people. Flint’s chapter has focused on voter registration, civic engagement, and working with local agencies to eliminate barriers for people who have been detained at the county jail or who have had a previous conviction.

Support to the Neighborhood Engagement Hub as the fiscal sponsor for Healing Through Your Story, an eight-week pilot program focused on strengthening the verbal and written communication skills of women who are currently incarcerated. Healing Through Your Story combines storytelling with a trauma-informed care approach designed to help participants understand their own experiences, share their voice, and gain new confidence in their ability to change themselves, their families, and their community.

Support to Peckham, Inc., for the Embers Project, which is a 12-week trauma-informed skills and support group offered to those who identify as women who have experienced human trafficking or other sexual trauma. 

Two years of support to Urban Renaissance Center for its operations as a neighborhood hub in Civic Park that provides job readiness training through its Rebounding Force employment program as well as access to a variety of cultural, health, and other community resources. URC revitalizes places and maintains vacant lots in Civic Park to improve neighborhood conditions while providing employment experience.

Support to the YMCA of Greater Flint for its Safe Places youth development program, a year-round summer and afterschool enrichment, exploratory, and recreation program that supports students’ academic, physical, and social-emotional development with holistic programs and activities.

Project support to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint as fiscal sponsor for the Unified Sisters Artistic Expressions Experience Program 2016. The Artistic Expressions Experience program is a weekly afterschool program for girls in north Flint that supports positive youth development through dance lessons, academic supports, educational workshops, cultural activities, and community service.

General operating support to Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint to serve north Flint youth afterschool, during school breaks, and over the summer months at the club's north Flint facility on Averill Avenue. Boys and Girls Club continues to provide a safe learning environment where kids can have fun, learn new skills, and build positive relationships with peers and caring, responsible adults.

Project support to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint as fiscal sponsor of Bangtown Production's Studio on the Go Expansion Project 2016. The Studio on the Go afterschool program uses hands-on lessons with professional-grade technology to connect and expose youth to careers in the industries of music production, technology, and videography.

Project support to the City of Flint for the Flint Park Mowing and Maintenance project, which will support mowing and basic maintenance of City of Flint Parks, as well as resident education efforts pertaining to the City's 2016 parks and recreation millage renewal.

Project support to the City of Flint for the Imagine Flint - Neighborhood Planning Initiative project. The Neighborhood Planning Initiative will support the development and implementation of comprehensive and collaborative neighborhood plans designed to stabilize and improve neighborhoods in the City of Flint.

Project support to the Fair Food Network for Double Up Food Bucks, which provides low-income, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients with incentives to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers' markets and vegetable stands in Michigan.

Project support to the Flint Housing Commission for Families Coming Together Program 2016, which provides weekly enrichment and community engagement programming to residents at four public housing communities in Flint. Supported programming for youth and adults includes: tutoring, job readiness, gardening, arts, robotics, game nights, exercise, and clean-ups.

Support to the Flint Police Foundation for the North End Community Crime Strategy project, which will support the development and implementation of a comprehensive, community crime prevention program in north Flint.

General operating support to the Flint Public Library to carry out three strategic priorities: inspire creativity through digital literacy; support family literacy; and encourage interaction in a community space. The Flint Public Library provides traditional library services and learning, digital access and inclusive programs for Flint residents of all ages.

For the Genesee County Land Bank Authority's Clean & Green program, which provides support to community groups and organizations in the cleaning, maintaining, boarding, and beautification of otherwise vacant properties in north Flint.

Project support to the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission for Keep Genesee Country Beautiful, which works to educate, encourage, and engage the community in the ongoing cleanup and beautification of parks and public spaces in Flint and Genesee County. Key programs include: Adopt-a-Park, Beautification Mini-grants, Cleanup Support, and Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

General operating support to the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) for Flint LISC operations, which offer community development and technical assistance services designed to help Flint residents transform their communities into healthy places to live, do business, and raise families.

Project support to Mott Community College for the Flint & Genesee Literacy and Basic Skills Network. The Network is a coalition of community organizations, businesses, and governmental leaders working to raise basic skills and literacy levels and promote lifelong learning in Genesee County through support of collaborative efforts, organizational capacity building, and awareness raising campaigns.

Project support to United Way of Genesee County as fiscal sponsor for the Flint Area Reinvestment Office, which provides free consulting and technical assistance to public, private, and nonprofit organizations pursuing competitive state and federal funding opportunities for programs in Flint and Genesee County.

Project support to the United Way of Genesee County as fiscal sponsor for the FWC Berston Boxing Club, which provides free afterschool programming that promotes physical fitness, nutrition, discipline, education and teamwork through the sport of boxing.

Project support to the Buckham Fine Arts Project for the Buckham/GVRC Share Art Project 2016. The project provides weekly arts workshops to juveniles in detention at the Genesee Valley Regional Center.

Project support to Carriage Town Ministries for the Summer Education and Enrichment (SEE) Program. The SEE pilot program will provide summer day camp programming focused on maintaining and improving math and reading skills to youth residing in transitional housing as a result of homelessness.

Project support for the Mr. Gaines Gardening Program PLUS (People Learning Useful Stuff). The Mr. Gaines program provides north Flint youth with 16 weeks of: job training, employment, and culinary and nutrition lessons.

This grant provides support to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint for the Flint Child Health and Development Fund, developed to support children exposed to lead in their water. The Fund will be used to aid children with interventions that support positive health outcomes including: immediate needs, early childhood education, student support services, nutrition education, healthy food access, and research.

Supplemental project support to the Fair Food Network for the Double Up Food Bucks Flint 2016 project, which provides low-income, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients with incentives to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers' markets and vegetable stands in Michigan. This grant will support a variety of program enhancements designed to expand resident participation among Flint residents and encourage increased consumption of healthy foods such a fruits, vegetables and dairy products that reduce lead absorption in children and adults.

Project support to the Flint Cultural Center Corporation for the Community Engagement and Cultural Education 2016 program, which offers a wide-variety of high-quality, experiential learning opportunities in science, history, and the arts at Sloan*Longway and The Whiting to Genesee County youth, adults, and educators.

Project support to the Genesee Chamber Foundation for the Creating Economic Opportunity in North Flint program, which will provide north Flint teens and adults with pre-employment training. The grant also supports summer job placements for TeenQuest graduates through Summer Youth Initiative.

Project support to the Genesee Chamber Foundation for the Flint Grocer Improvement Program, which will provide existing grocery stores in north Flint with access to mini-grants to implement prescribed enhancements and upgrades in operations, grounds, and facilities that will improve access to fresh, healthy food and mitigate the effects of lead exposure for north Flint residents.

Project support to Genesee County Habitat for Humanity for the Target Neighborhood Repair project, which helps low-income homeowners in north Flint neighborhoods complete critical repair projects to avoid foreclosure and the subsequent family distress created as a result of housing instability.

The workshop will focus on approaches for boosting parent engagement and the importance of parent involvement in early childhood education in light of the Flint water crisis.

Project support to Genesee Shiawassee Thumb (GST) Michigan Works for Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates, a local out-of-school-time version of the Jobs for America’s Graduates program. This local program provides young people facing multiple barriers to education and employment with learning supports, job training, and job shadowing experiences.

Project support to the Michigan Council on Crime and Delinquency for The North Flint Former Prisoner Project, which will provide wraparound re-entry services including safe housing, health insurance, and employment supports to north Flint men who are returning from prison and face the highest risk for re-offending.

Project support to the Michigan League for Public Policy for the Empowering North Flint Residents project. Through the Empowering North Flint Residents project, the League will work with local community organizations and resident groups to develop core data elements and information profiles for the City of Flint tailored to north Flint resident-identified priorities. Collected and compiled data will be used to support policy and systemic changes.

Project support to Project SYNCERE Inc. for STEMNETICS, a program that provides north Flint students the resources and experiences necessary to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) learning opportunities and increase academic proficiency in math and science.

Project support to Social Impact and Investment (SIPI) for the Organizational Capacity Building-Phase 1 project. Phase 1 will provide capacity building services focused on strengthening internal capacity to three north Flint grassroots organizations.

This grant renews project support to the Sphinx Organization for the Sphinx Overture and Sphinx Artist Residencies/Community Engagement 2016 project. Sphinx programs provide out-of-school classical music education to north Flint youth.

Project support to St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center, Inc. for the Social Enterprise Expansion project, which will provide job skill training and employment opportunities in private sector occupations for north Flint residents.

Project support to the Flint Institute of Music for the Community Outreach 2016-2017 Program, which provides high-quality, age-appropriate afterschool and summer music and dance instruction and live performance opportunities for north Flint children and families.

Project support to the Flint Institute of Music for the Flint Youth Theatre's 2016-2017 season, "All Together Now: Building Bridges through Inclusion." The six plays produced in collaboration with local youth serving agencies will highlight the value of cooperation and teamwork.

Project support to the Regents of the University of Michigan for the North Flint Economic Prosperity Program, in which the University of Michigan-Flint will engage Flint youth and adults in a series of workshops and events that promote entrepreneurship, small business development, and financial literacy in various north Flint neighborhood locations.

Project support to the Regents of the University of Michigan for the North Flint Unemployment Insurance Project, which uses trained first year law students from the University of Michigan Law School to advocate for north Flint residents who are participating in job training programs and have been denied unemployment benefits.

For supplemental operating support amid the Flint water crisis to support the United Way’s ongoing efforts around immediate emergency response activities and long-term planning actions related to the water crisis.

Three years of project support to United Way of Genesee County as fiscal sponsor for Friends of Berston, which operates the historic Berston Field House located in north Flint as a neighborhood hub offering youth development programs and community activities and services for residents of all ages.

General operating support to the United Way of Genesee County, a health and human service agency serving the residents of Genesee County by raising the funds needed to continue critical support in four focus areas: education, health, financial stability, and basic needs. UWGC also hosts Genesee County's Volunteer Center and provides capacity building support to nonprofit organizations in Genesee County through the Building Excellence Sustainability and Trust (BEST) program.

Project support to United Way of Genesee County as fiscal sponsor for Raise it UP! Youth Arts and Awareness, which promotes youth engagement through the use of performing and literary arts, community involvement and social justice initiatives. Key programs include: youth poetry program, youth writers series, annual Super Talent Show, and workshop and assembly series.

Project support to InvolvedDad for the IMPACT–Father Engagement program, which offers parenting education and life skills training opportunities for noncustodial fathers, their children, and mothers living in north Flint. The IMPACT program promotes healthy relationships between parents and children and encourages fathers to fulfill their financial obligations for their children.

SIPI will provide support to seven grant-funded programs to pilot a coordinated data collection/evaluation process. Smaller programs will also receive embedded support to identify and implement strategies to diversify revenue and demonstrate impact.

The Summer Engagement Academy is designed to support low-income and working families by offering free, interactive learning opportunities for youth. The program engages youth in age-appropriate learning opportunities and sports-based activities to promote academic success and enhance social skills.

African Drum and Dance Parents Association provides provide culturally relevant, arts-based afterschool and summer programming focused on traditional West African drum and dance to north Flint youth.

Asbury CDC provides literacy programs, nutrition lessons, job training, water resource services, and community meeting space to north Flint residents.

Project support to Bangtown Studio on the Go for the Studio on the Go Expansion 2021 project. Bangtown will continue to serve north Flint youth at neighborhood hubs and school sites within north Flint. Studio on The Go provides hands-on afterschool programs and lessons using professional-grade equipment to expose youth to careers in the industries of music production, technology, and videography.

Project support to Bethel United Methodist Church for the summer component of the Flint Freedom School Collaborative, which consists of a six-week summer day camp at Bethel United Methodist Church and Calvary United Methodist Church. 

Project support to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County to match north Flint youth who are currently on the agency’s waiting list with an adult mentor and provide ongoing support and resources for youth who are actively engaged in the program. Big Brothers Big Sisters will also provide support and training for parents/caregivers of active program participants, establish a new Parent Advisory Council, and support mentoring partnerships with Flint-area churches.

General operating support to Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint to serve Flint youth afterschool, during school breaks, and over the summer months at the Club’s north Flint facility on Averill Avenue. The Boys & Girls Club continues to provide a safe learning environment where kids can have fun, learn new skills, and build positive relationships with peers and caring, responsible adults.

The Mr. Gaines Program provides north Flint youth with job training, employment, and culinary and nutrition lessons.

Project support to the Center for Higher Educational Achievement (CHEA) to deliver intensive reading and math supports to north Flint residents who are: over the age of 25, academically challenged, and interested in completing their High School Diploma or GED and/or pursuing postsecondary education or job training.

Project support to Child Care Network for the Family Support Program, which provides scholarships for children from low-income families to attend high-quality child care, enabling parents to pursue school or work. All scholarships funded by the Ruth Mott Foundation are for north Flint families. 

Project support to the City of Flint’s Department of Planning & Development to engage at least four different north Flint neighborhood groups in developing neighborhood plans over the next two years. 

Project support to the Clingman Foundation for the Academic Improvement College Readiness Program, which provides afterschool tutoring, mentoring, and SAT Test preparation programming to north Flint youth.

The Greater Flint Urgent Relief Fund was established to “quickly coordinate and deploy resources to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Flint area that are working with communities disproportionately affected by the coronavirus outbreak.”

Project support to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint for the Neighborhood Small Grants Program, which supports established and emerging resident-based organizations in Flint to carry out projects that address pressing issues within their neighborhoods, build alliances with other community institutions, and develop community-based leadership.

The Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) project is a national initiative catalyzed by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to jettison the belief in a hierarchy of human value through narrative and systems change and racial healing. TRHT has the potential to bridge gaps in communication and respect between individuals and systems through healing and trust building. By building relationships across diverse sectors of the community, TRHT will work to transform systems and promote healing from the effects of racism. Flint is one of four Michigan cities to participate.

Project support to the Fair Food Network for Double Up Food Bucks, which provides low-income, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients with incentives to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers' markets and vegetable stands in Michigan. This grant will support a variety of program enhancements designed to expand resident participation among Flint residents and encourage increased consumption of healthy foods such a fruits, vegetables and dairy products that reduce lead absorption in children and adults.

Project support to Faith Foundation Resources for a youth and young adult job readiness training and placement program that teaches professional communication skills, financial literacy, and personal credit development to north Flint youth.

Project and capital support to the Flint Cultural Center Corporation for Sloan Museum of Discovery, North Flint Collaboration, and The Whiting’s Youth Usher Corps programs. Capital support is for the fabrication and installation of new, hands-on exhibits at Sloan. Project support is for: STEM-based (science, technology, engineering and math) afterschool programming for north Flint children and families; Sloan’s North Flint Advisory Council; and The Whiting’s Usher Corps program that provides teen job training and employment at The Whiting and Capitol theatres. 

The Tire Project is an intensive pre-employment program created to prepare north Flint residents for entry-level positions as tire technicians in automotive repair centers through a nine-hour hands-on training program. Key program elements include a three participant to one instructor ratio during the training.

The purpose of the Flint Area Education Foundation is to support scholarships for graduating senior high school students of Genesee County attending a college, university, or technical school or students currently enrolled in a college, university, or technical school.

To help support the placement and creation of a statue in honor of the late Flint Mayor Floyd J. McCree, who was appointed as the first Black mayor of a major American city post-Reconstruction. The fund will also support future maintenance, education, and programming related to the statue, which is slated to be placed on City Hall grounds.

Support for COVID-19 relief and recovery grants made by the Greater Flint Urgent Relief Fund. The Fund was established to “quickly coordinate and deploy resources to nonprofit organizations in the Greater Flint area that are working with communities disproportionately affected by the coronavirus outbreak.”

The Neighborhood Small Grants Program supports established and emerging resident-based organizations in and near the City of Flint to carry out projects that address pressing issues within their neighborhoods, build alliances with other community institutions, and develop community-based leadership. 

Project support for activities related to civic engagement, advocacy, and crime prevention through environmental design/placemaking work with north Flint parks and neighborhood groups.

To provide support to Crime Stoppers of Flint and Genesee County to educate, engage, and empower Flint and Genesee County residents to share crime-related information with law enforcement anonymously through a secure tips line or secure web connection.

Support to Faith Foundation Resources for a youth and young adult job readiness training and placement program. The Helping Young People with Employment (HYPE) program teaches professional communication skills, financial literacy, and personal credit development to prepare north Flint youth for adulthood.

To provide project funding to the 100K Ideas organization to support entrepreneurs in north Flint and bring business startups to market.

To provide support for First Children’s Finance to facilitate timely conversations regarding needs and challenges facing north Flint childcare businesses during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Grant will support quality engagement to establish trust and a clear pathway for low-interest loans and other technical assistance available through First Children’s Finance for north Flint businesses.

Project support to the Genesee Chamber Foundation for Issue Media Group’s Flintside: On the Ground 2021 program. The On the Ground project will embed trained journalists who will work in partnership with residents to develop weekly news coverage highlighting events and the work of local individuals, businesses, and nonprofits in one north Flint neighborhood. The program will also provide training, equipment, and paid freelance opportunities through a fellowship program for neighborhood residents to write their own stories.

Support to the Flint and Genesee Chamber Foundation for the Minority-Owned Small Business Directory project. The pilot project
will identify local minority-owned small businesses, provide supports to ensure businesses are prepared to take on new contracts (“buyer ready”), connect sellers with buying institutions, host a small business expo, and create an online directory for ongoing access to resources and contract opportunities in Flint and Genesee County.

For an intensive hands-on pre-employment program that prepares north Flint residents for entry-level positions in automotive repair centers. The program is designed to provide north Flint participants with training that leads to stable employment and the potential for career advancement.

With great respect and profound appreciation, the Ruth Mott Foundation Board of Trustees established this fund in honor of former Trustee Sandra Butler's many years of dedicated service. Her deep love of community and advocacy for women and girls benefited our organization as a whole and made us a better board. We were happy to award this grant in her name to the Flint Institute of Arts.

The Flint Institute of Music's Community Programs provide high-quality, age appropriate out-of-school-time music, theatre, and dance instruction for youth as well as job training and employment opportunities for teens. Supported programs include: Music and Dance for Early Learners; satellite music, dance, and theatre programs at Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village; scholarships for in-person and virtual theatre classes offered by The Flint Repertory Theatre; and the Youth Usher Corps Program, which provides teen job training and employment at The Whiting and Capitol Theatre.

To provide project and capital support to the Flint Institute of Science and History for the 2021 North Flint Collaboration. Project support will provide funding for Sloan’s North Flint Advisory Council and out-of-school-time STEM programming (science, technology, engineering and math) for north Flint children and families. Capital support will provide funding for the fabrication and installation of new, hands-on exhibits at the new Sloan Museum of Discovery.

With great respect and profound appreciation for Gloria Coles' years of service on the Ruth Mott Foundation Board of Trustees, the Board established a fund in honor of Ms. Coles’ retirement to be designated to the qualified organization of her choice. Ms. Coles’ strength of character, spirit of generosity, and tireless advocacy for the residents of Flint have positively impacted our community and our organization. We were happy to award these funds to the Flint Public Library in her name.

Project support for the Jackson Park Youth League’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) afterschool and summer program, which serves youth at Berston Field House, Eagle’s Nest Academy, and Hardenbrook (Jackson) Park in north Flint.

For a partnership with Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) to provide transportation services to vaccination clinics for north Flint residents.

Support to the Genesee County Land Bank Authority for the Clean and Green program, which supports community groups and organizations to clean up, maintain, and beautify otherwise vacant properties in north Flint.

To support a coordinated approach to improving conditions in City of Flint parks and other neighborhood public spaces by mobilizing volunteers, nonprofits, and government partners.

Capital support to Greater Flint Mental Health Facilities for the construction of Genesee Health System’s new Center for Children’s Integrated Services. The Center will be a unique community resource offering high-quality behavioral and physical health services for children and families in one accessible and centralized location. The Flint water crisis and ongoing Covid-19 crisis have increased the need for behavioral health services for Flint youth.

Project support to InvolvedDad for the IMPACT–Father Engagement program, which is the staple and foundational program of the organization that provides leadership training, parent education courses and life skills development opportunities for noncustodial fathers, their children, and the mothers of those children who reside in north Flint. The IMPACT program has expanded its programmatic reach and increased its partnerships to encourage fathers to fulfill financial obligations to their children, promote healthy relationships between children and parents, and involve mothers in civil co-parenting.

Project support to Legal Services of Eastern Michigan to provide free, civil legal support services to low-income, north Flint residents who are: seeking employment; recently employed or underemployed; or enrolled in parenting education and job training programs.

Support for the operation of the LISC office in Flint. The grant supports staff time and operating costs associated with providing access to LISC’s national expertise as an intermediary on matters related to community development and economic revitalization.

General operating support to MADE Institute to provide job training and life skills services to people returning from incarceration or who have a prior criminal conviction.

For the League of Women Voters Flint Area to deploy voter education strategies focused on the importance of voting, ways to evaluate candidates, and how to solve problems that prevent completion of the voting process. The League will conduct research, give workshops and presentations, share findings, and recommend local civic participation strategies.

Support to Motherly Intercession for the Reading and Counting to Success Plus program. Motherly Intercession’s mission is to provide a comprehensive system of support designed to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.

Project support to the Neighborhood Engagement Hub as fiscal sponsor for the The Porch Project, a resident-led, neighborhood beautification initiative focused on exterior home improvements of occupied dwellings. The Porch Project will work with residents to beautify and provide external home improvements at 130 occupied homes in north Flint.

STEMNETICS provides specialized training to youth in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM); youth are also engaged in critical thinking exercises. The STEMNETICS program prepares youth for STEM-related careers and provides learning opportunities designed to increase math and science proficiency.

General operating support to Re-Connections, Inc. to provide job training, life coaching, and employment opportunities to individuals returning from incarceration.

General project support for Nation Outside’s Flint Chapter with Safe & Just Michigan as the fiscal sponsor. Nation Outside engages formerly incarcerated residents around voting and policy change through voter registration, education, and advocacy.

Harriet’s leadership, participation on numerous local committees and boards, and her deep love of the Flint community have positively impacted our city and our organization. We were happy to award these funds to the YWCA of Greater Flint in her name.

Support to Active Boys in Christ to offer age-appropriate, hands-on vocational job skills training (electrical, plumbing, construction, and cooking), mentoring, and academic enrichment to north Flint youth, ages 7-17. Programming will include weekly afterschool activities and a four-week summer program. Youth enrolled in the summer program will help remodel two north Flint homes.

General operating support to African Drum and Dance Parents Association to provide culturally relevant, arts-based afterschool and summer programming focused on traditional West African drum and dance to north Flint youth.

Support to Always Hope Ministries for the Youth Summer Program: Prevent 2022. Facilitated and monitored by Always Hope staff, the Prevent 2022 program connects adults with students to help with academic activities to bolster math and literacy skills.

General operating support for Asbury Community Development Corp.'s north Flint neighborhood hub to provide literacy programs, nutrition education, job training, COVID resource services, and community meeting space to north Flint residents.

Support to Bangtown Studio on the Go for the Studio on the Go Expansion 2022 project. Studio on the Go provides hands-on afterschool music and visual arts programs to promote collaboration, teamwork, tolerance, and improve participants' self-worth.

Support to Bethel United Methodist Church for the Flint Freedom School Collaborative, which consists of two-generation family support programming during the academic year, and a six-week camp expanded to serve four locations.

Support to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County to match north Flint youth who are currently on the agency’s waiting list with an adult mentor and provide ongoing support and resources for youth who are actively engaged in the program. Big Brothers Big Sisters will also provide support and training to parents/caregivers of active program participants, continue Parent Advisory Committee activities, and build mentor recruitment partnerships with north Flint businesses.

General operating support to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint to serve youth ages 7 to 17 at two separate Flint locations. More than half of the youth served by the Club reside in north Flint. The Club’s priority outcomes are academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.

Support for the Center for Higher Educational Achievement (CHEA) to deliver intensive reading and math supports to north Flint residents who are: over the age of 25, academically challenged, and interested in completing their High School Diploma or GED and/or pursuing postsecondary education or job training.

Support for Child Care Network to provide child care scholarships to north Flint families. The scholarships eliminate barriers to work or education for north Flint parents who cannot otherwise afford child care. Child Care Network staff also help families connect with and apply for other resources such as public pre-school programs and state child care subsidies.

Support to the Clingman Foundation’s Academic Improvement College Readiness Program, which will provide afterschool tutoring, mentoring, SAT Test preparation, and new courses in financial literacy and coding/programming to north Flint youth, ages 14-18.

Support to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint for the Neighborhood Small Grants Program and for the Enterprising Ventures of Color program. The Neighborhood Small Grants Program supports established and emerging citizen-based organizations in and near the city of Flint to carry out projects that address pressing issues within their neighborhoods, build alliances with other community institutions, and develop community-based leadership. The Enterprising Ventures of Color program is an intensive two-year capacity building initiative for Flint nonprofit organizations led by people of color.

Two years of general operating support for the Courier to continue to provide relevant news and information to north Flint residents and to improve its ability to serve as a resource and connector for neighborhood groups and organizations that serve north Flint.

General operating support to Evergreen Community Development Corp., the nonprofit that operates the Flint Development Center as a neighborhood hub in north Flint. The center hosts a variety of youth development, community health, and civic engagement programs.

Support to First Children’s Finance to convene a peer group of north Flint childcare providers. Facilitated by First Children’s staff, the cohort will meet monthly to engage in shared learning and discussion on a variety of industry-specific topics with a focus on small business operations and the systemic issues facing business owners who are female and/or people of color. Participants will develop an Individual Action Plan to address one or more of the ongoing needs or challenges facing their business with support from First Children’s staff members. Participants who successfully complete their Individual Action Plan will be eligible to apply for capital support in the form of forgivable and/or low-interest loans.

Support to the Flint and Genesee Chamber Foundation for the 2022 Summer Youth Initiative program to offer summer job placements to youth in grades 9-12 who have completed the TeenQuest afterschool job skills training program.

Opportunity Youth are defined as young people ages 16 to 24 who are unemployed and not attending school. The grant will also support the establishment a new one-stop supportive service “Youth Engagement Center” at Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village located in north Flint. The Center will provide youth with appropriate pathways to finish school and/or gain meaningful employment through needs assessments and intensive individualized support services.

Support to Metro Community Development as the fiscal sponsor of the League of Women Voters Flint Area for the 2022 North Flint Voter Education Project. The League will design and conduct north Flint resident engagement efforts and civic participation strategies to gauge and increase participation in voting.

Two years of project support to the Michigan League for Public Policy to connect Flint residents with state-level policy work and to advocate for policies that matter to Flint residents. The project includes generating a Flint-specific Kids Count data profile, training Flint residents on using data in advocacy, and educating policymakers at the state level about social safety net, health, education, and other priorities that relate to the well-being of north Flint residents. 

General project support to Motherly Intercession for the Reading and Counting to Success program. Motherly Intercession’s mission is to provide a comprehensive system of support designed to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.

The Ballenger Lecture Series was created to enhance educational opportunities for the students of MCC as well as create a public discussion of the issues facing the greater Flint community. The Ballenger Trust has provided funds for the Lectures since 1955 and the Ruth Mott Foundation along with other community partners have provided financial support over the years for well-known speakers. The 2022 speaker is expected to be Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of "The 1619 Project."

Support to Mott Community College for the Flint & Genesee Literacy Network, which mobilizes and convenes literacy-focused direct service organizations and collaborative partner networks across Genesee County, including north Flint.

Support for two youth camps: the Preparing Youth for Adulthood Camp and the 3rd Annual Talent and Skill Development Camp for Youth.

Support for the Brownell Boulevard Coalition’s 2022 Storytime in the Garden (with Neighborhood Engagement Hub serving as fiscal sponsor) for a new tent and banner for Storytime and their other community garden activities.

General project support for the Flint chapter of Nation Outside with Safe & Just Michigan as the fiscal sponsor. Nation Outside is a statewide organization with a mission to drive policy and practice reforms that build transformative systems of support for justice-impacted people. Flint’s chapter has focused on voter registration, civic engagement, and working with local agencies to eliminate barriers for people who have been detained at the county jail or who have had a previous conviction.

General operating support to the Neighborhood Engagement Hub as a north Flint community center (including the community tool shed) that supports neighborhoods in becoming safe, healthy, and whole through building local wealth and strengthening individuals and groups.

Support to the Neighborhood Engagement Hub as fiscal sponsor for The Porch Project, which is a resident-led, neighborhood beautification initiative focused on exterior home improvements of occupied dwellings. The Porch Project will work with residents to beautify and provide external home improvements, mostly to homes in north Flint.

Support to the North Flint Reinvestment Corp. to address COVID-related cost increases in the furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the North Flint Food Market grocery co-op. It would also increase the loyal customer base by subsidizing co-op memberships for 500 north Flint residents who may otherwise have difficulty affording the membership price.

Support to Project SYNCERE for the STEMNETICS program, which provides specialized training to youth in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM); youth are also engaged in critical thinking exercises. The STEMNETICS program prepares youth for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related careers and provides learning opportunities designed to increase math and science proficiency.

Support to Promote the Vote Fund for a radio advertising blitz between now and election day targeted to Flint residents to boost awareness and inform voters of the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline; and to support work with partner organizations on the ground in Flint that can also help with hotline literature and other resource distribution during their door-to-door walks in their neighborhoods. This includes amplifying access to resources available on michiganvoting.org, such as Know Your Rights guides in English, Spanish, Arabic and Bengali.

General operating support to Re-Connections, Inc. to provide job training, life coaching, and employment opportunities to returning citizens.

Support for SIPI, Inc. to provide capacity building services including workshops, a cohort program, board member recruitment, and embedded supports to north Flint nonprofit organizations.

Project support for Specialized Employment Services, Inc., doing business as Flint STRIVE, to offer a 15-day job training program and employment supports to unemployed or underemployed adult residents of north Flint. The program will also support the participation of north Flint youth in the Youth Empowerment Program, a year-round job readiness and paid job shadowing program.

Project support to the Sphinx Organization for the Sphinx Overture: Music Education and Youth Development Program. Sphinx provides out-of-school-time small group and private music lessons to north Flint youth at four sites in north Flint (Brownell/Holmes STEM Academy, Doyle-Ryder Elementary, Potter Elementary, and Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village). Through a partnership with The Flint Institute of Music, Sphinx also offers full scholarships for north Flint Sphinx students to participate in music programs (private lessons, group lessons and summer camps) at The Flint Institute of Music.

Support to STEMLETICS Academy for the STEMLETICS E-Sports League program, which provides hands-on, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning experiences using sports training during after-school hours for north Flint youth.

General operating support to Tapology to provide out-of-school-time development programs and employment through tap dance to north Flint youth at Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village and other sites located in north Flint.

Support to the Flint Institute of Music for the Music and Dance for Early Learners program, Youth Usher Corps Program, and satellite music, dance, and theatre programs at Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village. The support includes funding to pilot two new programs, the Teen Arts Guild, which provides introductory arts career training for teens, and Troubadours, which engages young children in interactive arts learning through live music and storytelling.

General operating support to United Way of Genesee County to: 1) raise funds from companies, organizations and individuals to support programs in the focus areas of Education, Financial Stability, Health and Basic Needs; 2) serve as a community connector, convener, and fundraiser for specific initiatives, including services related to the COVID-19 pandemic; and 3) provide capacity building support in Genesee County through grantmaking, technical assistance, Genesee Serves, the National Service Accelerator, and fiscal sponsorship for grassroots organizations. 

Support for the Urban Renaissance Center for two years. Urban Renaissance Center is a neighborhood hub in Civic Park that provides job readiness training through its Rebounding Force employment program as well as access to a variety of cultural, health, and other community resources. It also rehabilitates distressed homes and maintains vacant lots in Civic Park to improve neighborhood conditions while providing employment experience.

Support for the YMCA's Safe Places youth development program. Safe Places is a year-round summer and afterschool enrichment, exploratory, and recreation program that supports students’ academic, physical, and social-emotional development with holistic programs and activities.

Support to Active Boys in Christ, Inc,. to offer age-appropriate, hands-on vocational job skills training (electrical, plumbing, construction, and cooking), mentoring, and academic enrichment to north Flint children, ages 7-17. Programming will include weekly afterschool activities and a four-week summer program. Youth enrolled in the summer program will help remodel two north Flint homes.

General operating support to African Drum and Dance Parents Association to provide culturally relevant, arts-based afterschool and summer programming focused on traditional West African drum and dance to north Flint youth.

Support to the Arab American National Museum to conduct community conversations and pilot programming to engage north Flint residents (primarily children and youth) in culturally-relevant experiences both at the Dearborn-based museum and within the north Flint community.

Support to Bangtown Studio on the Go, which provides hands-on afterschool music and visual arts programs for north Flint youth to promote collaboration, teamwork, tolerance, and improve participants' self-worth.

Support to Bethel United Methodist Church for the Flint Freedom School Collaborative, which consists of two-generation family support programming during the academic year and a six-week summer camp.

General operating support to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County to match north Flint youth who are currently on the agency’s waiting list with an adult mentor and to provide ongoing support and resources for youth who are actively engaged in the program. 

General operating support to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Flint to serve over 1,300 youth at two Flint locations. The organization's intended outcomes are academic success; good character and citizenship and healthy lifestyles; and that youth participants are on track to graduate from high school.

Support to the Center for Community Progress to provide technical assistance and coordination of an extensive review, analysis, and summary of existing policies, practices, plans, and data to serve as the basis for a comprehensive, long-term strategy for addressing nonstructural blight and stewarding vacant lots in Flint. This work may provide the groundwork and collaboration toward addressing the ongoing and significant issue voiced by residents of vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties in Flint.

Support to the Child Care Network to provide child care scholarships to north Flint families. The scholarships reduce barriers to work or education for north Flint parents who cannot otherwise afford child care. Child Care Network staff also help families connect with and apply for other resources such as public pre-school programs and state child care subsidies.

Support to the Clingman Foundation’s Academic Improvement College Readiness Program, which provides afterschool tutoring, mentoring, and SAT Test preparation, as well as new courses in financial literacy and coding/programming to north Flint youth, ages 14-18.

Support to Communities First, Inc., to continue helping north Flint residents achieve job certifications, remove barriers to employment, and access financial education. The project builds on Communities First’s work around civic engagement and technical assistance for entrepreneurs.

Support for the Michigan Justice Fund, a collaborative philanthropic initiative designed to address issues of mass incarceration in Michigan. The Fund was launched in 2020 to advance equitable justice policy reform and to support transformational change taking place in communities throughout the state. The Fund invests in initiatives designed to promote and advance the prosperity and dignity of Michigan residents by stemming the flow of individuals into the youth and criminal legal systems, supporting the investment of public dollars to community-driven alternatives to incarceration and detention, and by ensuring those who are returning home after incarceration or detention receive the support they need to flourish.

Support to Crime Stoppers of Flint and Genesee County to continue its work in north Flint. Crime Stoppers educates, engages, and empowers Flint and Genesee County residents to share crime-related information with law enforcement anonymously through a secure tip line or secure web connection.

Support to El Ballet Folklórico Estudiantil to provide Mexican folkloric music, dance, and cultural programming in English and Spanish to youth, grades 2-6, enrolled at Richfield Public School Academy located in north Flint. Youth will participate in weekly afterschool programming and optional Saturday lessons.

Support for the 100K North Flint Programming Initiative 2022, which supports entrepreneurs in north Flint by increasing the number of new businesses and sustaining existing businesses for north Flint residents. 

Support to the Flint Jackson Park Youth League’s 2023 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) afterschool and summer program, which serves youth ages 4 to 15 and teaches them baseball techniques, team building, and social skills. 

Support for performing arts programming for children ages 5 to 12. The Saturday day camp, twice weekly afterschool activities, and six-week summer camp provide free theatre, dance, and music programs year-round.

Support to Forge Flint to bring in a part-time mechanic, who will be able to train apprentice mechanics and increase the number of vehicles they are able to repair. The goal of the program is to provide job skills for apprentices and to help families access reliable transportation.

General operating support to Friends of Berston for its operations of Berston Field House, a neighborhood hub offering academic programs, sports and recreation activities, and arts and cultural opportunities for north Flint youth and families. The United Way of Genesee County will continue to serve as fiscal sponsor for Friends of Berston.

Support to the Friends of Berston Field House organization to assist with their search for a new Executive Director following the tragic passing of Bryant "BB" Nolden.

Support to GearUp2Lead for the Flint Youth Engagement Center and Coalition project. GearUp will support ongoing operations of the Flint & Genesee Opportunity Youth Coalition, a group of approximately 30 community partners who work with opportunity youth in Flint and Genesee County. Opportunity Youth are defined as young people ages 16 to 24 who are not employed and or attending school. The grant will also support the one-stop supportive service “Youth Engagement Center” at Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village in north Flint. The Center will provide youth with appropriate pathways to finish school and/or gain meaningful employment through needs assessments and intensive individualized support services.

Support to the Genesee County Land Bank Authority for the Clean and Green program, which provides support to community groups and organizations in the cleaning, maintaining, and beautifying of otherwise vacant properties in north Flint.

Support to the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission for the North Flint Public Safety Strategy, which engages residents as park adopters, supports the City of Flint in managing city parks, and provides resources for community groups through Keep Genesee County Beautiful to care for public spaces in their neighborhoods.

The mission of Harvest Theatre Co. is to enrich the lives of Flint youth through the theatrical arts. The funds will support the purchase of production rights for Harvest Theatre Co.'s summer youth programming.

Support to InvolvedDad for the IMPACT – Father Engagement program. The IMPACT program is the foundational program of the organization and provides leadership training, parent education courses, and life skills development opportunities for noncustodial fathers, their children, and the mothers of those children who reside in north Flint. The IMPACT program supports fathers in fulfilling financial obligations to their children, promoting healthy relationships between children and parents, and involves mothers in co-parenting.

Support to the Genesee Chamber Foundation for Issue Media Group’s Flintside: On the Ground. The On the Ground project will embed trained journalists to work in partnership with residents to develop weekly news coverage highlighting events and the work of local individuals, businesses, and nonprofits in a north Flint neighborhood. The program will also provide training, equipment, and paid freelance opportunities through a fellowship program for neighborhood residents to write their own stories.

Support to Legal Services of Eastern Michigan to provide free, civil legal support services to low-income, north Flint residents working to navigate legal challenges. This project aims to remove legal barriers preventing people from obtaining or retaining jobs and increase household financial stability. Legal support services may include housing, employment, education, family, individual, and consumer rights.

General operating support to MADE Institute to provide job training and life skills services to people returning from incarceration or who have a prior criminal conviction.

A matching grant to support the construction of 20 new affordable single-family homes in the Metawanenee Hills neighborhood of north Flint.

Support to Motherly Intercession for the Reading and Counting to Success Plus program. Motherly Intercession’s mission is to provide a comprehensive system of support designed to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration.

The Mindful & Motivated Youth Health Summit is a one-day summit where youth will be exposed to mini-medical school sessions, health seminars, a healthcare panel, and self-care spaces. The summit's purpose is to help improve young people's health status in Flint and Genesee County.

B-roll Matters is a media camp that exposes youth to the world of media. The program's mission is to provide a safe learning environment for students while offering hands-on education in broadcast media, social media, photography, print journalism, and news literacy.

Support for the Flint chapter of Nation Outside with Safe & Just Michigan as the fiscal sponsor. Nation Outside is a statewide organization with a mission to drive policy and practice reforms that build transformative systems of support for justice-impacted people. Flint’s chapter has focused on voter registration, civic engagement, and working with local agencies to eliminate barriers for people who have been detained at the county jail or who have had a previous conviction.

General operating support for the Neighborhood Engagement Hub, a neighborhood center and catalyst for positive neighborhood change. The Neighborhood Engagement Hub supports neighborhoods to become safe, healthy, and whole through building local wealth and strengthening individuals and groups.

Support for the North Flint Neighborhood Action Council with Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village serving as fiscal sponsor. The Council supports north Flint residents’ civic participation and involvement in public safety efforts.

Support to Peckham, Inc. for the Embers Project, which is a 12-week trauma-informed skills and support group, offered to girls who have experienced human trafficking or other sexual trauma. Embers is currently offered in both Ingham and Genesee Counties, and the program serves north Flint youth.

Support to Project SYNCERE for the STEMNETICS 2023 program. STEMNETICS provides specialized training to youth in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). Youth are also engaged in critical thinking exercises. The STEMNETICS program prepares youth for STEM-related careers and provides learning opportunities designed to increase math and science proficiency.

General operating support to Re-Connections, Inc. to provide job training, life coaching, and employment opportunities to people returning from incarceration.

Support to SIPI to provide capacity building for nonprofits and small businesses serving north Flint through workshops, cohort programs, and embedded supports. Organizations participating in workshops and cohort groups are eligible for additional hours of one-on-one technical assistance.

Support to Specialized Employment Services, Inc., doing business as Flint STRIVE, to offer a 15-day job training program and employment supports to adult residents of north Flint. The program will also support the participation of north Flint youth in the Youth Empowerment Program, a year-round job readiness and paid job shadowing program.

Support for St. Luke NEW Life Center's general operations. The Center is a neighborhood hub providing employment training services, GED classes and literacy supports, and access to basic needs. 

General operating support for Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, a north Flint neighborhood hub offering academic programs, sports and recreation activities, and arts and cultural opportunities for youth and their families.

General operating support for Tapology, which provides out-of-school-time youth development programs and employment through tap dance to north Flint youth at Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village and other sites located in north Flint.

Through interactive sessions, young ladies will have the opportunity to learn self-worth, healthy body image, and social etiquette and be encouraged to dream, pursue and maintain growth in their lives. TSESSI groups lessons into four domains: self-awareness, education and career, social etiquette, and community service.

General operating support to United Way of Genesee County to: 1) raise funds from companies, organizations and individuals to support programs in the focus areas of Education, Financial Stability, Health and Basic Needs; 2) serve as a community connector, convener, and fundraiser for specific initiatives; and 3) provide capacity building support in Genesee County through grantmaking, technical assistance, Genesee Serves, the National Service Accelerator, and fiscal sponsorship for grassroots organizations.
